Review: The Iron Giant
A big fucken robot befriends a screaming little kid.Rating: 6 / 10
"I eat pieces of shit like you for breakfast", Christopher McDonald's famous line, was sadly missing from this film. :(
However, that was one of the few ways in which the character for which he provided the voice was different to his character in Happy Gilmore. Oh, that and the golf thing.
Apart from how incredibly annoying that character is (which is obviously intentional, but relies too much on manner and not enough on character development), this movie is pretty good!
It's primarily animated, with the giant actually done in CG, the only effect of which is to make it look fucken cool.
The creators have successfully given the movie a 1950s feel, which is pretty appropriate for a movie set in the 1950s. Jennifer Aniston is the voice of Annie Hughes, the single mother (MILF!) of Hogarth Hughes, a bratty child who discovers a metal eating metal giant trying to electrocute itself in the forest and saves it, thus winning the robot's favour, affection, and other similar soppy things like that.
Harry Connick Jr is the voice of Dean, a motorcycle riding artist who bestows some values on the young boy that appear harmless, until those words of wisdom come back to bite the viewer on the arse in the form of motivational encouragement from the boy to the robot near the end of the movie, when everybody's trying to kill everybody else.
This movie won't change your life. Hell, it doesn't even have any lesbian scenes, but it's worth a watch anyway. Pretty good.
Oh, and the sound is great! So great that I think I'll get Marcin to put a star-rating for the sound in the review database.
[Marcin: Eat shit]
Marcin eats pieces of shit for breakfast?
