Review: Ghost World
After High School ends Enid strays away from her plans when she meets Seymour, a musically obsessed middle-age man.
Thora Birch, Scarlett Johansson, Steve Buscemi
Rating: 6 / 10
Departing from the outstanding advice she obviously received as a 17 year old in her first major role in American Beauty, Thora Birch keeps her tits in her shirt for this entire movie.
I hear you ask, "So why the hell would I see this movie?"
Because there's more to life than hot naked women! God you people make me sick!
Besides, she still looks impressive in her odd little costumes, and Scarlett Johansson (who also keeps her tits to herself) is also quite impressive. Far moreso than Thora Birch, in fact. Who likes short shorts?

So anyway, on to the actual movie...
I'd like to read the original comic to get an idea of with what I should compare this film. It's quite obviously not supposed to be anything like the average teenagers-leaving-highschool movie, and has an unusual feel and disjointed flow. When I came out I thought the movie had gone for a lot longer than it actually had, though I didn't consider that a bad thing.
It's about Enid and Rebecca, two girls who have just finished high school and are rushed to leave their adolescence whimpering and bleeding in the gutter.
Of course, that's not because they particularly dislike adolescence, it's just their style. Every thing and every body they encounter is left whimpering and bleeding in the nearest gutter, a worthy punishment for having been so offensively normal.
But, removed from the isolation of high school, the girls suddenly begin to display distinctly different tendencies and move in opposite directions.
While I've made it sound about as thrilling as The Horse Whisperer, it's actually a very clever movie and you don't look at your watch until after it's finished.
I would recommend that most people see it, but especially anybody with a slightly cynical bent.
Ooh, turns out Scarlett Johansson was IN The Horse Whisperer! Haha. Hard to believe just 5 years ago that girl was in grade school...
