Merry Christmas!

Where I work there is a single Christmas Party each year for all the Sydney staff (about 1,000 of them), rather than each department having their own party. The venue and "theme" are usually kept secret until a Flash based invite goes out to all staff via our Intranet, whose purpose is to reveal both and provide a way to RSVP. This invite is usually done by the company we use for all of our web graphics work, however this year I was asked if I wanted to give it a go.

I was a bit unsure at first, as I'm not good at the art side of producing web stuff, however I figured with resources out there for stock photos, vector art, etc, I should be able to get by so I committed myself to it. It was quite a learning process, as I'd never really done anything complicated in Flash before, but I think it's turned out really well. It has been well received at work and everyone really likes it, so I guess I've done okay!

So anyway, I thought I'd show it off here, with some modifications to remove references to when and so forth, although it should be pretty obvious "where" as it's a main part of the invite. The theme stuff is pretty kitsch, but that's pretty normal with these work Christmas Parties. Also the RSVP at the end doesn't work because there's nowhere to submit it to.

Launch the invite (warning: opens in a popup window, and has 80s music! Required Flash Player 7)

Issues I Know About But Ran Out Of Time To Fix

  • Exit button isn't working right, but I think that's to do with something I broke when removing stuff for the "public" version. I swear it worked fine at work!
