Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform 1.4

I sat the exam for the Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform 1.4 on Wednesday, and came away with a 96% score (2 wrong out of 61 questions). Considering the pass mark is only 52% I think that's pretty good, given the general agreement that it is a difficult test.

Bushwalking: Mount Talaterang

After getting picked up at 5AM on Saturday morning by walk leader John we made the 3 hour trip to the Mount Bushwalker carpark in the Morton National Park / Budawang Wilderness. I was alone this time, without my wife Ella, who is still recovering from a self-inflicted foot injury (she really should stop kicking the furniture).

When Google Turns Bad...

You'll have noticed that Junkheap has Google ads. Occasionally they disappear and turn into public service announcements because we mention lots of nasty words on the front page, or some other thing that Google considers the be of dubious worth.

You see, Google serves its ads based on the content of the page on which they appear. It checks the page, looks for keywords and selects ads which specify the same keywords as relevant.

Therefore, if you want to advertise your bicycle selling website with Google Ads, you select "bicycle" as a keyword, and any website with Google Ads and the word bicycle on it will become a possible host for your ad. Simple!

Occasionally it goes wrong.

Bushwalking Food

I've been thinking and reading a lot about bushwalking food lately. Rather than just taking whatever feels right (light weight and decent feed mainly) actually making a conscious effort to think about how much energy a food provides for a given weight. The next bushwalk I'm planning on going on is to the Budawangs on 13-14 May, and I wanted to try and experiment a bit with different food - we have been taking pretty much the same stuff on every walk so far so it's time for a change.
