Grand Theft Bollocks

I thought i'd weigh in on the whole GTA: San Andreas thing. I'm sure it's nothing that hasn't been said, but I'd like to say it for myself. Below the fold..

Do I look a bit foreign?

I wonder how authentic this is, whether it was written by actual station staff or just a helpful commuter. Sorry about the picture quality, the mail server at work thought it'd be smart and convert it to a GIF when I sent it to myself - although it looked like a mobile phone image in the first place. Still readable though!

Podcasts

I've been listening to a lot of podcasts lately. There's some entertaining stuff out there, as well as informative. The latest one I've subscribed to is The Distorted View. It's been described as "Audio Porn", and especially on Sex Tuesdays (or whatever the actual segment name is, i've only listened to one so it hasn't stuck) when he reads a dodgy Internet porn story. This week's was Teletubbies porn! Also has dodgy celebrity gossip and other offensive content.

Some other podcasts I have been enjoying are the Daily Source Code, The Dawn and Drew Show, Skepticality, Slakcer Astronomy and ABCs Science Show. These are relatively "mainstream" podcasts, i'm sure with time i'll discover some quirky obscure ones.

I have entertained the thought of a Junkheap podcast, recorded with Zuid via Skype, but it's a lot of work. We may do a "proof of concept" episode but probably never do another one. It'd be a collectors edition!

Tune in! Drop out! Get with the times!

Photz.

I've set myself up a Flickr account. I've mainly got some recent bushwalking photos on there, but I'll slowly upload some older photos as I get around to it.

Fickr is easier than running your own gallery and you don't have the same bandwidth / diskspace limitations. Well, that's assuming you pay the US$25/yr. I think that is a reasonable price for photo hosting, considering you wouldn't find a webhost that gives you that much space for the same price and without download limits. Also Flickr has the whole "community" aspect, which can be fun to explore.

Zuid also has some photos on Flickr. Not many, but he might add to them at some point. Although as far as I remember he doesn't have a working camera at the moment.

Also on the Flickr topic, FlickrBooty is a good little site that links to interesting photos of usually naked chicks that are found on Flickr. Some are actually quite good artistically! I've just been looking at them for their composition, honest!

Gettin' with da times

I have just come out of a meeting with the Seinor Technologists at Junkheap.net and we have come to the conclusion that RSS is finally a mature enough technology to implement on our website. So starting today the Junkheap RSS feed is available at:

Junkheap RSS

On a more serious note, basically the code and db schema is pretty crap (this was my first real PHP/MySQL site) and so there's no easy way to get movie reviews and regular posts in the same feed. At least not any way that would take less than the 10 minutes I could be bothered spending implementing the feed.

I have realised that my mini-framework (if you can call it that) which I built for my travel site, and have since expanded for another project is probably good enough such that I could relatively painlessly re-implement Junkheap on top of it. So I may do that at some point.

Anyhoo, enough of the nerdiness..

Society going places..

Mr Whitby, who was about five metres away, said the man tripped to the ground then police held him and shot him in the head.

Wow, it's great to see we're all learning to get along and that the decay of society has halted. I don't think there's been anything about this guy that actually shows he was a "terrorist" apart from him running away from Police. Then again, he could have been the next Osama bin Laden. Best not to take chances!

Oh, and while i'm on this topic can anyone explain to me why a National ID card would prevent an Australian walking onto a train with a backpack full of explosives and detonating it? Email me!
